Airbnb Picks Queensland in New Program For Remote Workers

Date:

Queensland, Australia–The Sunshine state of Australia, Queensland, has been selected as one of twenty destinations that Airbnb has partnered with under the new, Live and Work Anywhere initiative.

The official marketing organization of the state of Queensland, TEQ (Travel and Events Queensland), has been collaborating with Airbnb to create a seamless workation experience for tourists as a part of the initiative.

According to Airbnb’s website, the program aims to “highlight outstanding global destinations for remote working.” The accomodation-booking company has shortlisted destinations already established on the working travelers’ map and has partnered with governments, launching landing pages for each of them, which would act as a “one-stop shop” for remote workers wishing to travel there.

Landing pages for destinations would act as content hubs containing information and assistance in booking long-term stays, entry requirements for countries, tax policies, and more.

The twenty destinations shortlisted for the program include:

  • Baja California Sur, Mexico
  • Thailand
  • Bali, Indonesia

Queensland is also reportedly partnered with online travel booking platform Trip.com in a new global marketing campaign.

According to data from Tourism Research Australia, 194,000 tourists visited Queensland in the second quarter of 2022. While the numbers are still down compared to the pre-pandemic period, it is 542% more than during the same period last year.

The state of Queensland lies on Australia’s North-East coast and is home to five of the country’s eleven World Heritage sites.
