The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) has officially included Terengganu in its DE Rantau programme, expanding Malaysia’s digital nomad destinations.
According to a report in Citizens Journal, this initiative aims to attract global talent by highlighting Terengganu’s blend of tranquil beaches, cultural heritage, and natural beauty.
The announcement was made at Kampung Budaya Terengganu, with Datuk Razali Idris, Terengganu State Executive Council for Tourism, Culture, and Environment, officiating the event.
According to the report, other notable attendees included Fabian Bigar, Secretary General of the Ministry of Digital, and Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh, Chairman of MDEC.
The DE Rantau programme began in 2022 and now includes Penang, Langkawi, and Kuala Lumpur locations.
The report added that it offers the DE Rantau Nomad Pass, a particular immigration facility for digital nomads. Since its launch, over 3,500 applications have been received, and 1,741 have been approved.
Recent updates to the pass have expanded eligibility and simplified application requirements.
MDEC has developed a network of 2,183 DE Rantau Hubs across Malaysia, providing high-speed broadband and work-friendly amenities.
The report noted that the programme is supported by 16 ecosystem partners in various sectors, enhancing its appeal to remote workers.
