Albertville, AL–Sand Mountain Park and Amphitheatre, a sport, leisure, and recreational facility spread across 130 acres in Albertville, announced coming in second place in the category ‘All-Star Outdoor Sports Events Venue’ at the SportsEvents Magazine’s Readers’ Choice 2023 in a news release published on February 7.
The online voting window closed in early January, and winners (top 3 in various categories of sporting events and venues) were announced in the magazine’s February issue. The first position in the category was given to the sports facility at the University of Oregon, known as Hayward Field.
Per the release, Sand Mountain Park and Amphitheatre hosted more than 95 sports events and tournaments (including Perfect Game Baseball, USA Softball, and National Championship Sports), bringing in over $23.3 million and one million visitors in 2022.
“This does not come as a surprise. Anytime there is a discussion about venues, I let everyone know that Sand Mountain Park is one of the nicest and best-run venues I host events at,” said Greg Barnett, Deep South Director of Perfect Game Baseball (high-school baseball scouting organization) in the release.
The park operations are handled by Sports Facilities Companies, an organization that specializes in organizing sports events and running facilities.
The facilities offered by the park include:
- 16 tennis courts,
- 14 outdoor turf fields (baseball, football, soccer, lacrosse, etc.)
- An outdoor amphitheater that can seat 6000+ people
- 8-lane indoor swimming pool
- 18-hole disc golf course
- 3.5+ mile walking/running trail
- Recreation center that includes four hardwood courts
- An outdoor water park
- Multiple playgrounds
- RV park
- Two dog parks
- 103,000-square-foot community
- 2-story fitness center/gym
- 2-lane indoor track
- Locker rooms
- Conference/party rooms
“We are honored to be selected as one of the top venues in the nation,” said Patrick O’Brien, general manager of the park, in the release, adding that the award reflected the caliber of the facilities and the management team at the center.
